Psychotherapy & Counselling

Short and Long term, In person and Online.

PSYCHOTHERAPY and COUNSELLING

People come to me for therapy and counselling for many reasons including the need for support through major life transitions, relationship difficulties, anxiety, the absence of intimacy, anger issues, spiritual crisis.

The belief that there is inherent health and goodness at the core of all of us is intrinsic to my work.

Core Process Psychotherapy is a beautiful integration of western approaches to healing and well being (personality theory, psychodynamics and other psychotherapy skills) with Buddhist psychology, mindfulness and awareness practice. It is one of the original mindfulness based forms of psychotherapy.

Presence in relationship is a keynote of our approach. Together as therapist and client we jointly explore and be present with the impact of suffering and difficulty. This allows us to pursue ways of attaining  some ease, contentment, inner peace in our lives.

HOW DO WE START OUR WORK TOGETHER?

We have an initial session to explore the possibility of working together. If we decide to go ahead we arrange six sessions on a weekly basis – unless other commitments such as irregular work hours prohibit this. The focus and nature of the work required clarifies further in this time.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?

As we get to know and trust each other there is a growing awareness of the impact of past experiences and suffering but also of the capacity to recover. The uniqueness of each person means that different approaches are necessary. A session might include remembering the past, bringing attention to the feelings and emotions generated by that remembering, allowing anger, laughter, use of art materials, tears, dreamwork, thinking, movement – each session is determined by individual present time mental and emotional states.

There is always the intention to listen deeply, to be compassionate and mindful.

FACE TO FACE and ONLINE THERAPY and COUNSELLING

A big change in recent years has been the introduction of online therapy. As I state when writing about supervision I was initially reluctant to embrace it. Experience – my own and others’ – has changed my mind. I now happily work online using a secure app, VSee, ensuring the confidentiality of the work.
